Director's welcome

Over the past twenty years Arcadia Players has established itself as one of the most creative, visionary and exciting ensembles not only in Western Massachusetts but for many miles around. Our unique blend of historical performance practice and expert musicians makes for both sophisticated and passionate performances. Our musicians bring new light and life to repertoire ranging from Monteverdi to Haydn and Weber. No other group in Massachusetts offers such diverse repertoire played on instruments of the period!

Arcadia’s upcoming season expands our repertory further with a major all-Beethoven concert. Following last season’s popular format of giving a whole concert to a single composer, we will play a symphony, a piano concerto and a tenor song-cycle by Beethoven. Other season highlights include a 17th-century English Choral Evensong, two performances of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 and, marking the 250th anniversary of the death of Handel, performances of Acis and Galatea and Israel in Egypt. Then in June 2009 I will be leading a tour of Southern England to visit historical sites and to demonstrate the organs of famous churches and cathedrals. The season ahead surely has something for everyone—come and enjoy with us!
