- The program features Haydn’s Trio in F major for fortepiano, flute and
cello, the Beethoven Sonata for fortepiano in violin in A
major, Op. 12, No. 2, Beethoven’s 7 Variations on Mozart’s “Bei
Männern, welche Liebe fühlen,” from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, for
cello and fortepiano, and selections from Carl Maria von Weber’s Ten Scottish Songs (1825)
with Simphonies and Accompaniments for the Flute, Violin, Violoncello
and Pianoforte.
- The five musicians of the Arcadia Chamber
Ensemble are distinguished for their solo and ensemble performances of
repertory that ranges from Baroque to contemporary. Christopher Krueger is principal
flutist with the Handel and Haydn Society and Boston Baroque, and a
member of the faculties of New England Conservatory and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Violinist
Lisa Rautenberg
has performed concertos in many major American and European concert
halls and is Associate Concertmaster of the Hartford Symphony. Cellist Kivie Cahn-Lipman
is devoted to contemporary as well as earlier music, having
participated in some 500 solo and small-ensemble world premieres. He
serves on the faculties of Smith and Mount Holyoke
Colleges. Monica Jakuc Leverett,
Professor of Music at Smith College, has studied and performed on early
pianos for over 20 years and has given many performances, and made
several recordings, of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and their
contemporaries. She has also championed contemporary music and music by
women composers. Tenor Peter
W. Shea, who has sung throughout New
England since 1972, brings his interpretive gifts to a
great range of musical styles including those of Monteverdi, Bach and
Schubert. He also sings with Novi Cantori and the vocal chamber
ensemble Cantabile.

- Monica Jakuc Leverett will play a 5
1/2-octave fortepiano built by Paul McNulty for Smith College
in 2000. It is modeled on designs by the Viennese instrument maker
Anton Walter from the early years of the 19th century when Haydn,
Beethoven and Weber were active.
- This concert, a benefit for Arcadia Players,
will be held in the beautifully resonant Gothic-style Skinner Chapel,
as part of the United Congregational Church Concert Series. It is the
first Arcadia performance at United Church,
which has been Arcadia’s
office and headquarters since June 2007.
- The audience is invited to a reception
following the concert.
