  • The program features Haydn’s Trio in F major for fortepiano, flute and cello, the Beethoven Sonata for fortepiano in violin in A major, Op. 12, No. 2, Beethoven’s 7 Variations on Mozart’s “Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen,” from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, for cello and fortepiano, and selections from Carl Maria von Weber’s Ten Scottish Songs (1825) with Simphonies and Accompaniments for the Flute, Violin, Violoncello and Pianoforte.
  • The five musicians of the Arcadia Chamber Ensemble are distinguished for their solo and ensemble performances of repertory that ranges from Baroque to contemporary. Christopher Krueger is principal flutist with the Handel and Haydn Society and Boston Baroque, and a member of the faculties of New England Conservatory and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Violinist Lisa Rautenberg has performed concertos in many major American and European concert halls and is Associate Concertmaster of the Hartford Symphony. Cellist Kivie Cahn-Lipman is devoted to contemporary as well as earlier music, having participated in some 500 solo and small-ensemble world premieres. He serves on the faculties of Smith and Mount Holyoke Colleges. Monica Jakuc Leverett, Professor of Music at Smith College, has studied and performed on early pianos for over 20 years and has given many performances, and made several recordings, of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and their contemporaries. She has also championed contemporary music and music by women composers. Tenor Peter W. Shea, who has sung throughout New England since 1972, brings his interpretive gifts to a great range of musical styles including those of Monteverdi, Bach and Schubert. He also sings with Novi Cantori and the vocal chamber ensemble Cantabile.

  • See more detailed bios and photos on the Frederick Historic Piano Collection website.
  • Monica Jakuc Leverett will play a 5 1/2-octave fortepiano built by Paul McNulty for Smith College in 2000. It is modeled on designs by the Viennese instrument maker Anton Walter from the early years of the 19th century when Haydn, Beethoven and Weber were active.
  • This concert, a benefit for Arcadia Players, will be held in the beautifully resonant Gothic-style Skinner Chapel, as part of the United Congregational Church Concert Series. It is the first Arcadia performance at United Church, which has been Arcadia’s office and headquarters since June 2007.
  • The audience is invited to a reception following the concert.
  • Monitored off-street parking is available across from the church on Appleton Street from the church.

This program will also be presented by Arcadia Players and the Frederick Historic Piano Collection on Sunday, May 11, at 4:00 PM at Ashburnham Community Church, 9 Chapel Street, Ashburnham, MA. Click here for more information on the Frederick Collection's website.
